Was it murder? Was it horribly botched surgery - accidental malpractice? Was someone in the great Boston medical centre -violating the Hippocratic oath? No one knows exactly. . . Only one doctor is willing to push his way through the mysterious maze of hidden medical data and shocking secrets to learn the truth. This explosive medical thriller is vintage Michael Crichton - with the breathtaking blend of riveting suspense and authentic medical detail that has made him one of today's most fascinating writers.

Reviews for A Case Of Need

This, well not highminded but highpowered account does a work up of the legal and moral aspects of abortion without rubber gloves, namely following the death of the daughter of a prominent Boston family. Under arrest is one Art Lee, a medical maverick known to have justified and performed abortions, while kept under wraps is everything which involves Karen Randall. . . a Smith girl who seems to have been living off campus, on drugs, and with black and white studs. Acting on behalf of Lee is his friend John Barry, a pathologist, and he suspects the findings of the autopsy - Karen had not been pregnant but. . . . Not for the lavender and Lavoris readership of Dr. Kildare, but in its drastic fashion quite, quite readable. (Kirkus Reviews)
