But he was also the last of the Centaurans - or at least, half of him

was - which meant that he was the only person who could operate the Centauri Device, a sentient bomb which might hold the key to settling a vicious space war.

This classic novel turns the space opera on its head, and is written with the precision and brilliance for which Harrison is renowned.

Reviews for Centauri Device (#31 SF Masterworks)

John Truck turns out to be part Centaurian - the last identifiable survivor of a genocidal war - and he's caught between two bloodthirsty Terran factions, both seeking the enigmatic weapon that was the Centaurian legacy to their destroyers. This one is well intentioned but self-indulgent - it has its moments but they're few and far between the light years. (Kirkus Reviews)
