Hein de Haas is a sociologist and geographer who has conducted extensive research on migration issues for over the past three decades. Between 2006 and 2015, he was founding member and co-director of the International Migration Institute (IMI) at the University of Oxford. He is currently Professor of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) from where he continues to direct IMI. He is also Professor of Migration and Development at the University of Maastricht. He lives in Amsterdam.
