GALAXY BOOKSELLER PICK —— Being a massive fan of Laini’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy I was somewhat apprehensive to start on this new epic… could it possibly be as good? Would I feel as deeply for these unknown characters, in this unfamiliar new world that she has wrought? So it was, with some trepidation that I turned the first page and was no sooner enraptured and engrossed in the opening prologue – I mean, damn this woman can write!

Laini again manages to pack in all of the feels without making the narrative heavy or condescending instead leading the reader on a journey alongside the characters ensuring that you get to know them, understanding their struggles, hopes and desires. I feel this is imperative to her writing prowess for as the story continues you are drawn into the decades old mystery that is the town of Weep and the two factions of its inhabitants, however instead of choosing wrong from right the reader is encouraged to see both sides of the coin from the perspective of our protagonist Lazlo Strange.

Masterfully pieced together this story is a technicolur dream and a recurring nightmare filled with wonderous creatures, far away lands, Gods of despair, a Muse of Nightmares and one man who dares to staddle them all. It’s a tale of star-crossed love, a haunted hero and a town that at once found its salvation yet lost its name, but above all else… Magic - real magic that is both beautiful and horrible. It will keep you guessing and hoping until the very last page and leave you audibly gasping for more. Amber

——

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly.

Since he was five years old he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries - including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo's dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods.  Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.
