GALAXY BOOKSELLER PICK ----- This is a lovely little gem of a book that takes a decent, well thought and and well written, run at the idea of Steam Punk (and so on).
I love the idea of Steam Punk but I'm often disappointed with the lack of any 'technology' (Sticking a balloon and a corset in there does not make it steam punk people!!), but this book, this world, delivers.
It is riddled with clever ideas and inventions (Clever = plausible, but not over-explained. I don't want a lecture) - that are well thought out, quirky and intriguing and relevant to the story and the world.
Win win and then some.
It's quite a pleasure to read such a book, - that drops some fun idea in your lap every few pages!
Story wise it's Sherlock Holmes meets Frankenstein and they get drunk and go crazy in a Steam Punk universe. Actually there's quite a lot more to it than that, but that gives you the idea, and, It has some great Characters that are fun to spend time with (always a bonus!).
It's hard to fault this, for what it is, and I hope there is more to come! ~ Craig

Pembroke Pimm Halliday is an aristocrat with an interest in criminology, who uses his keen powers of observation to assist the police or private individuals - at least when he's sober enough to do so. Ellie Skyler, who hides her gender behind the byline E. Skye, is an intrepid journalist driven by both passion and necessity to uncover the truth, no matter where it hides. When Pimm and Skye stumble onto a dark plot that links the city's most notorious criminal overlord with the Queen's new consort, famed scientist Sir Bertram Oswald, they soon find the forces of both high and low society arrayed against them. Can they save the city from the arcane machinations of one of history's most infamous monsters - and uncover the shocking origin of...
