Based on the practice and the teaching experience of a master tailor, this thoroughly detailed book contains the fundamental principles of traditional sartorial garment construction: the art of designing, cutting, fitting, and finishing menswear. Constituting a return to precision in hand-crafted tailoring and a valuable practical guide for fashion students, professionals and fashionistas, it brings together the various aspects of the techniques that have been honed by three family generations of artisan tailors practicing their craft from 1915 to the present day. This comprehensive treatise includes chapters dedicated to body and garment measurements, how to make patterns (including different techniques to adapt to the physical characteristics of each client), and how to create a wide range of different classic styles of jackets, waistcoats, trousers and coats. AUTHOR: At the age of 23, Artiel Garcia Aliste (1940-2019) took over the family's third-generation tailoring business from his father, who in turn had inherited it from his father Artiel Garcia Parra (1920-1951) and he, in turn, from his father Amaro Garcia (1915-1932) For years, he has combined his meticulous tailoring services with intense work as a teacher at the the Spanish Tailors Association's Escuela Superior de Sastreria (School of Dressmaking) in Madrid, Spain, founded in 1868. For many years, Aliste was also director of the official publication of the Tailors Association, the Revista Sartorial Espanola (Spanish Sartorial Journal), and lectured and published many technical works and articles. Once he retired, he dedicated his time to sharing the knowledge acquired during more than 75 years of dedication to professional education, and to collecting information and published materials on the profession at an international level.
